Let’s go back to 1997. MJ had returned and the Bulls were once again at full strength. However, in his absence a new star had risen on the hardwood and in the sneaker game. Penny Hardaway had become the fresh face on the court and in commercials with 6’7 point guard play that conjured images of Magic and a shoe like none before it, the Nike Air Foamposite One. Running for an incredibly steep price of $180 ($30 more than the market Jordan) many had the courage to look at them but few hand the funds or guts to buy them. Ahead of their time? Yes. Fast forward to 2011 and Foamposite is everywhere as we see the return of the true OG, the “Dark Neon Royal” colorway. Eric Avar’s prized creation arrives again sporting the loud blue upper, Penny logo detail, icy sole, and carbon fiber detail that made them infamous. Most of us missed these in ’97. Make up for it now as these release February 12th at select Nike accounts including Nice Kicks in Austin, TX.
